Mr. Houseman has either held executive management positions or been consulting to executives for the past
twenty years. He currently specializes in advice to
top management of small to medium-size firms on general
business problem management and analysis of business
growth or sale opportunities.
David
graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of Virginia-McIntire
School of Commerce in 1964 earning a B.S. in Commerce/Accounting.
He has held a CPA designation in Pennsylvania (1968),
New Jersey (1972), and Tennessee (1997). Upon graduation,
he spent five years with Arthur Andersen in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania as a senior auditor specializing in first-time
through audits across many industries including: manufacturing,
retail, oil and gas, stock brokerage, telephone utility
and non-profit institutions.
David
spent the next eighteen years in various management
positions including Controller and Vice President of
Finance for both public and private companies. He was
responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, tax,
internal audit and data processing, treasury, investor
relations, acquisitions, real estate and legal. Accomplishments
included: decentralization of management functions;
sale of under-performing assets; decentralization of
data processing to subsidiaries; implementation of performance
management systems and management education of planning
and results management.
David
began focusing on troubled companies in 1988 with the
inception of his own consulting company the HP Group
in Fort Worth, Texas. He gained valuable experience
in handling crisis situations handling court approved
orderly liquidations, refinancing post-petition debt,
and providing micro-management of working capital. In
1997 and ’98, David acted as CEO, CFO, and COO
for a publicly traded sports apparel company. During
this time he orchestrated stabilization of the core
printing business while cutting costs and excess facilities.
He successfully completed two acquisitions and the recapitalization
and the renewal of bank lines. David then joined Aurora
in 2000.
David
is currently advising the President of a metal-working
manufacturer, the CEO and financing advisor for a consumer
products equipment manufacturer, the CEO and board of
a transportation company, the owner and President of
a consumer packaging company, the owners of a construction
services company looking to sell and the CEO/Owner of
a distribution company. He is affiliated with AICPA,
PICPA, NJSCPA, TSCPA, Financial Executives Institute
(held chapter offices), Board of Directors several public
and private companies (none currently), First-Centenary
United Methodist Church- Administrative Board Chair,
and Officer of Homeowners’ Association. David
is married with four children and currently lives in
Chattanooga.
